Project description
The aim of this WOP is to ensure effective, efficient and sustainable water supply services in Nuku’alofa
Project main objectives
(a) Building technical capacity to reliably deliver water to all parts of the supply network
through the creation of supply zones and improved bulk supply metering
(b) Designing and assist in implementing a comprehensive program to reduce non revenue
water from the current level of about 50% to less than 25% by 2017
(c) Developing consumer water meter replacement policies and replace defective
consumer meters
(d) Building financial management capacity particularly in the areas of revenue
collection and billing; and
(e) Preparation of the TWB asset management plan
Most significant results
An increased awareness of leakage detection and saving water, through the
techniques and commitment at MidCoast Water.
• Detailed discussions on management of house connections from mains – good
design and leakage management
• Awareness of smart meters will permit good data collection on water demand
profiles for improved leakage management.
Challenges
Lack of financing for WOPs
