Project description
WaterLinks with USAID support through the Environmental Cooperation Asia project has facilitated this partnership between Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water), from South Korea, and Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) from Phillippines, aimed to help PPCWD to achieve the goals of improving operational efficiency in water supply and sewerage services in the area of Puerto Princesa City.
Project main objectives
The principal objectives of the proposed WOP are to (1) build capacity of PPWD to ensure safe water quality provision and effectively meet the Philippine National Water Drinking Standards of 2010; (2) improve PPWDs water quality management/monitoring operations to address water quality constraints that will benefit at least 12,000 customers; and (3) promote replication of innovations introduced through the WOP for other Philippine water districts that has prioritized water quality management in coordination with the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) and WHO.
Most significant results
Expected Results
• Increased capacity of PPWD to manage water quality and ensure safe water provision for at least 12,000 customers in Puerto Princesa.
• Reduced complaints from consumers on water quality issues such as turbidity, color
• Adoption of procedures and other applicable solutions by PPWD to deliver safe water supply services.
• Cost-sharing by WOP partners to implement WOP activities such as by PPWD to fund necessary infrastructure improvements and by K-water to provide necessary expertise/resources.
• Dissemination of good practices with other water districts in the Philippines to promote replication with PAWFD and WHO coordination
Final results:
• Improved treatment plant operation resulting in increased production capacity by 20%
• Adoption of new protocols in Campo Uno WTP to address turbidity and improve water quality
• Info dissemination of the WOP to the local media and other local water districts
• Redrafting of PPWCD’s application for new water source
• Adoption of design, procedures and other applicable solutions by PPCWD as identified by K‐water
• Submitted a Proposal to KOICA for possible funding for the Water Supply Improvement Project for Montible and Lapu‐Lapu Sources
• Continued guidance from K‐Water to PPCWD despite end of the WOP
