Project description
The partnership will introduce and implement this comprehensive water chain approach
Project main objectives
The project aims to ensure safe and reliable access to water as well as the improvement of sanitation services to reduce waterborne diseases. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to the government’s effort to realize sustainable economic growth and poverty alleviation, and focuses on enhancing self-reliance of water and sanitation of service providers.
The project’s target and activities are the following:
1) Establishing a framework for integrated water resources protection & water quality monitoring and improved control of waste water discharge with a special focus on the larger area of the Upper Awash River.
2) Reduction of sedimentation (50%) in catchment reservoirs around Addis Ababa and improved sanitation for 25,000 people in the buffer zone around the reservoirs of Addis Ababa.
3) Implementing water safety plans and performance improvement plans at Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority (AAWSA).
4) Realizing Non Revenue Water reduction for the improvement of water supply and water safety in Addis Ababa.
5) Implementing water safety plans, as well as an emergency programme for improved water supply in Adama.
6) Realizing an innovative catchment and WSP approach in the process of up-scaling. A precondition for this result is the approval of a business plan by Agency NL.
