WUF12 is a key platform for shaping the global agenda on sustainable urban development. It enables GWOPA members to advocate for stronger water and sanitation policies, exchange best practices, and explore innovative urban solutions.
The World Urban Forum 12 (WUF12) shapes the global agenda on sustainable urban development. At WUF12, GWOPA members can advocate for stronger water and sanitation policies, learn about innovative solutions to urban challenges and share best practices with peers worldwide. The forum offers networking opportunities with policymakers, donors and other stakeholders, enabling GWOPA members and partners to forge partnerships to strengthen their utilities.
Additionally, by engaging in discussions on key topics like climate adaptation and inclusive services, the Alliance can play a vital role in driving the transformation needed for resilient and sustainable cities to achieve Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 11, along with other SDGs through advocating for WOPs and SWOPs.
Despite progress toward reaching SDG 6 being off track, water operators are at the forefront, stepping up to meet the challenge. In 2022, 2.2 billion people were without access to safely managed drinking water and 3.5 billion people without access to sanitation. As urbanization increases the demand for reliable water services, water operators play a crucial role in delivering solutions, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, critical components of sustainable cities.
Voices from water and sanitation services: The Alliance can use the World Urban Forum to share experiences, form partnerships, advocate and drive innovative solutions for sustainable water management in cities.
