Project description
The aim of this WOP is to construct and operate an iron and manganese removal treatment facility.

Describe WOPs activities
The towns built shared water treatment facility.
The towns each retain local control of their own wells (water sources) and distribution systems.
Mattapoisett WSD provides certified operators and operation-and-maintenance services for the treatment facility. It works in conjunction with water officials from other towns.
Project main objectives
Improve drinking water quality;
Treat drinking water to remove iron and manganese;
Minimize capital costs; and
Share water resources to meet future demands.
Most significant results
Saved $4.9 million on capital costs by building a shared treatment facility instead of individual plants;
Used existing water supplies and avoided new source development costs; and
Provided emergency back-up and redundancy of water supply.
