GWOPA leads the Locally led Adaptation Programme of the Water Pavilion on COP28

Date: 5 December

Time: Full day

GWOPA is one of the core collaborators for the Water Pavilion implementation. In partnership with Water Europe and the Rio de Janeiro State of Brazil, GWOPA has actively contributed to curating the program for the Locally Led Adaptation Day on 5 December within the Water Pavilion at COP28. This programme encompasses five distinct pavilion events focusing on SDG Water Accelerators (capacity building, data, financing), best practices of local water adaptation projects and a high-level panel discussing the policy implications of the multi-level action and governance for water adaptation in cities.

Date: 6 December

Time: 09:30 – 12:00

GWOPA participates in UN-Habitat’s headliner event at COP- the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change. It serves as a vital link between local and national climate action plans. The meeting is co-hosted by the COP28 Presidency, UN-Habitat, and the High-Level Climate Champions. It will bring together ministers of housing, urban development, environment, and finance, as well as local and regional leaders, financial institutions, and relevant non-government stakeholders, to discuss ways to accelerate local climate finance and the role of cities in achieving the Paris Agreement. It is expected that the meeting will come out with a Ministerial Declaration, sector-specific commitments, and an urban climate resilience roadmap that includes local climate finance.
