Ahead of the Assembly in Cairo, GWOPA marked a significant milestone in its governance. For the first time since its establishment, the Alliance organized an electronic election campaign to renew the Steering Committee and elect the Chair of the Assembly. This successful process brought together key institutional members who join forces to a renewed and empowered Steering Committee. The Committee convened on the 2 November under the leadership of UN-Habitat Deputy Executive Director Michael Mylnár, fulfilling its pivotal role  in representing the voices of the constituencies and shaping the strategy of the Alliance, guiding the Secretariat’s priorities.

The Assembly welcomed its first-ever Chair, Dr. Rose Kaggwa, a renowned leader in the water and sanitation sector. Dr. Kaggwa has served as Senior Director, Business and Scientific Services at the Ugandan National Water and Sanitation Corporation since 2005, where she has been instrumental in NWSC’s transformation journey. A champion of knowledge-sharing, she has supported over 100 utilities from 35 countries across Africa, South-East Asia and the Caribbean.
