Project description
The Provincial Waterworks Authority of Thailand (PWA) seeks with this WOP practical tools and approaches to better understand the climate-change related impacts to their operations, to better achieve its goals of providing climate-resilient and safe water supply, addressing as well water quality constraints.
Project main objectives
The overall objective of the intended WOP is to improve PWA’s operational efficiencies that contribute to its climate resilient operations by
(1) reducing NRW in Udon Thani through a water meter replacement program
(2) optimizing water treatment and distribution processes in Chiang Rai
(3) demonstrating innovative water treatment technologies for potential adoption in Rangsit. PWA will also scale-up the technical interventions shared by Water Corporation throughout its network of waterworks.
(4) Improve water quality management practices (high turbidity and manganese levels)
(5) Introduce energy efficiency management in water service provision

Most significant results
Expected results
-Improved operational efficiencies to deliver water services for at least 15,000 households in Udon Thani and/or Chiang Rai and to contribute to climate resiliency.
-Key practical recommendations and materials (operating procedures) from Water Corporation to assist PWA in building its climate resiliency and improving operational efficiencies.
-Adoption of procedures and other applicable solutions by PWA to deliver safe water supply services and strengthen climate adaptive capacities.
-Cost-sharing by WOP partners to implement activities such as by PWA to fund necessary infrastructure improvements and by Water Corporation to provide necessary expertise/resources.
-Dissemination of good practices with other PWA waterworks
Final results
At the technical Level:
•Developed and adopted a new protocol for water quality management that addressed high turbidity and manganese levels
•Developed and implemented a water meter replacement program to address NRW management
•Introduced energy efficiency program to achieve energy efficient operations
•Trained a total of 100 PWA personnel on water quality management and energy efficiency
•Formed an Energy Efficiency Core Team to carry out provincial‐wide EE training
