The African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment of Uganda (MoWE)/National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), is organizing the 22nd AfWASA International Congress and Exhibition (AfWASA ICE2025), from the 16th to 20th February 2025 at the Speke Resort Conference Centre in Kampala, Uganda.
The Congress is part of the mechanisms to enhance the exchange of ideas and recent water and sanitation industry developments. It will bring together over 2,500 water professionals and leaders from various parts of the world to discuss African water and sanitation challenges, solutions, and the future perspectives.
The overall theme of the AfWASA ICE2025 is “Water and Sanitation for All: A Secure Future for Africa.” This theme is particularly relevant to the water and sanitation sector in Africa as most of the African countries are now faced with the challenge of ensuring access to water and sanitation amidst new challenges that include post effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, impacts of climate change, raging wars that are affecting the global financial situation, rapidly changing ICT space, population growth, and rapid urbanization. Never before has the need to face the challenge - to share ideas and resources, to look for new breakthroughs and innovations, to cooperate between nations, between generations, and between disciplines – been more urgent.
The Congress will, therefore, be solution and innovation-focused and will address water and sanitation issues in Africa, new breakthroughs and innovations to accelerate access to water and sanitation for all. The Congress Agenda is rich and was formulated to include the topical issues of specific interest for researchers, water specialists, operators/service providers, policymakers, industrialists, manufacturers, consumers, and civil society organizations, among others.
The Congress will also include the largest exhibition of its kind in Africa, showing the latest and best in water and sanitation technological development, products, and services. In addition, as part of the congress activities, AfWASA will also be celebrating 45 years of existence and a positive impact on the water and sanitation sector in Africa. The African Water and Sanitation Academy (AWASA) - a center of excellence for improving the water and sanitation sector performance in Africa - will also be officially launched during the congress.
